African cup of nation which usually called AFCON has begin to take different form now, it was started when the 3 consecutive time winner Egypt (2006, 2008 and 2010) didn't qualify to participate thus far, Nigeria was luck to win that of 2013 after defeating Burkina Faso by a lone goal follow by quality save from the goal keeper to maintain the lead.
However, in a similar manner to the case of Egypt, Nigeria have failed to qualify for AfCON since then and they miss out of that of 2015 and 2017 and have in a way affect the attention AFCON attracted in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
The qualifying match for that of 2019 has kick start and Nigeria still seems to open a chance that they are ready to qualify when they open the qualifying match in June with 2 goals to none home defeat by South Africa. One of the key players that was around then was Mikel.
Unfortunately, he won't still be around in the second qualifying match expected to hold by September as Nigeria face Seychelles at the Stade Linite in Victoria because of if his injury.
Rohr in a statement said "We spoke together. He [Mikel] is just coming back from injury and he needs to push his club commitments to get back in shape. After the injury he needs time to get fit again".
What is your take? Are we going to go far without Mikel?
