Lately there have been some great discussions on ways to increase valuable content and the number of users here on Scorum. @Tuck-Fheman suggested "buying bloggers" and @lanniebrockstein recently shared an image he's created to promote Scorum and some additional ideas (read here!). I wanted to gauge the community's interest in a small group focused on regular engagement and content here on Scorum -- a sports freewriting group and initiative.

Background on Freewriting

Freewriting is simply the process of setting a timer and writing as much as you can in that amount of time without stopping. You can do an unfocused freewrite where you just write whatever is in your head, even if that's "I don't know what to write right now but I refuse to quit so..." or a focused freewrite where you focus on a single topic.

One of my favorite groups on Steemit was (and still is although I haven't participated lately) the freewriting group. Each day they would spend 5 minutes writing based on a prompt, publish their work, vote (if they chose to), and comment on each other's work.

Why & How: Trying a Sports Freewriting Group on Scorum

The basic idea is that I would start a sports freewriting initiative here on Scorum and promote it wherever I could (and ask for your help as well). We would give writers a specific prompt each day and I would support their work.

One of the benefits of hosting a group like this is that freewriting improves the writing of an individual, and also helps them come up with additional ideas. This should result in more content here on Scorum while giving contributors an easy way to get something published.

But Won't This Result in Crappy Content?

I think this is a question worth addressing because you may already be asking it and I don't blame you.

When focused around a specific topic, freewriting can still turn out to be good content. I enjoy reading quick articles that are the result of freewriting. These pieces are never going to (and never should) compete with long-form copy that someone has spent hours on, and that's okay. There's obviously a place for more than one type of content here and I do feel that these posts would still provide as much or more value than updates on a workout or the results of a single poker tournament (although those have their place here too and I have written plenty of poker recaps to support that amazing community).

Time for Your Thoughts

I'm asking for it. What do you think -- your honest opinion? I do not think this will save Scorum, but I want to increase engagement, give writers ideas that they can hop on to publish more content, attract new writers, and show more support to fellow writers -- and I think this may be able to accomplish that.

Please comment below and thank you for your time and thoughts!

Note: Thanks to @Izge for his question -- the prompt and focus for every day of freewriting is focused on SPORTS. This is a sports platform and these topics, in order to get support from me, would need to be focused on sports.
