Some people on Scorum are constantly celebrating over reaching some milestone of followers. Of course, it’s a good thing to celebrate but if one must celebrate it shouldn’t be the number of followers because it turns the platform into spamming with needless posts. It will make more sense to celebrate some achievements such as reaching a certain SP, completed projects or some other things about the growth of the platform worth sharing with the public.
The celebration of the number of followers is a common trend on instagram or twitter and sooner or later, the trend will soon begin here just as we have it on the steemit platform. I have seen some people on this platform following and hoping for a follow back, but what these people don’t know is that it doesn’t work that way.
Although, having a good number of followers gives your post a wider audience but that does not determine how many bucks you’ll be getting on your posts. If the number of followers is all you need to earn well, then we won’t be having some people on this platform who have a few followers but earn more than those with of tons of followers. All I’m trying to say is that some people with just 20 followers earn more than those with hundreds of followers, and this is when upvote value comes in place.
Without talking much, below are the reasons why I feel that “follow for follow” is not worth it
i. Blind Following
One of the mistakes many newbies make here is that, as soon as they register, they go on blind following with the aim of having a lot of upvotes on their posts. Some of them have barely spent a week on the platform and they’re already following over 300 people. This is blind following and it will really affect your growth on the platform. Following every cat and dog will make it hard to read good content on your feed because your feed will be flooded with irrelevant and low quality posts.
ii. Mass Following
Mass following is a bit different from blind following but the similarity between them is that a blind follower is the ultimate culprit behind mass following. Isn’t it ridiculous to see someone following over 250 people while just 10 is following him? While blind following floods your feed with crap, mass following floods your friend list with dormant followers and irrelevant people. Going on following spree after registering will only make it hard for you to grow on the platform. Take a look at the blogs of those who go on mass following, you will see that none of these people have any traction or are making any money.
iii. No Value Addition
When someone follows you with the expectation of getting a follow back, will they care about your blog or post? Absolutely not. Now answer me. Do you care about the hundreds of people you follow as a reason of “follow for follow”? No I guess. The sad truth is that when you follow people who aren’t adding any value to the community, you’re wasting your time than anyone else. Stop the follow for follow trend and try interacting in a valuable way and you'll find yourself in good environment on Scorum.
iv. Getting Useless Upvotes
Why worry about the number of your followers when your tons of dormant followers cant give you more than $0.50 on your post..Al not trying to say that, some people have little SP but having them their upvotes is quite better than tons of people who don't care about you. If you want to be followed by the shining stars on Scorum you need to improve on your content and relate with them sincerely and this will automatically attract them. The first time @bloggersclub followed me, I was very happy and I had to work more on my content and before I knew it, @bjempire, @mikey, @alibaba @lawless, @pete and other big boys followed suite. When you are able to attract the big boys on the platform, you don’t need to be worried about not having huge followers. Just one upvote from them will be worth more than all your dormant followers combined
v. The Power of Relevance
In the blogging world, relevance is your most powerful tool and ally. If relevance is the key to success then lack of relevance is the key to failure. Try to be relevant and you don't need to beg for a follow back. You also need to add to the community because you will only make money here on scorum if the people who have invested in SP upvote your posts frequently and this can only happen if they see that you’re adding to the community otherwise you will end up wasting your time when you're a lazy bone and then decide to use "follow for follow" approach to build your followers
I drop my pen at this juncture
I hope this make sense to someone?
