It was a rather strange match between Kiev and Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday with the hot weather clearly getting to Club Brugge who started playing better once it started raining after minute 30. They qualified for the play-off round with a 3-3 score. The pre-game bet I took won while the live bet on Kiev +0 1H as the underdog after taking the lead ended up losing good for a tiny bit of profit combined. 2 more interesting matches in the Europa League today...
FC Viktoria Plzen vs FC Antwerp
Antwerp actually played a great first Europea match last week not even in their own stadion winning 1-0 against Plzen. The visitors started out quite even but showed to be weaker than I expected as the match progressed. Antwerp also seems to be more willing to go forward this season with Mbokani / Refaelov / Rodrigues. They are still capable of defending a result playing for a clean sheet though. Plzen seems to be in somewhat of a crisis with their coach being under fire after the 0-2 loss at home last weekend against Slovacko being without a goal in the last 4 matches now. Lots of loyal Antwerp fans will travel to attend the match as all entry tickets for them are sold out. For as far as betting goes, it's a tricky one since the 1-0 home win will bring extra time and possibly penalties. Even though Plzen wasn't all that impressive last week and they are somewhat in a bad form, they still have the European experience and play at home. The betting option that tempts me the most is Antwerp +0.5 with a No Bet if it ends in 1-0 @ 1.79 and I will likely end up taking some on that.
AA Gent vs AEK Larnaca
AA Gent seems to be in a pattern to play great Home matches and poor away matches. The heat last week and being unable to acclimatize to it probably played a big part similar to how it did for Club Brugge on Tuesday. One of their problems has been that they are unable to keep a clean sheet and their coach will put more importance on that from now on. Everything last week pointed to the fact that AA Gent should not have any problem setting Larnaca aside. Their previous home games are still the main reference I go by right now. Nerves could play a part in this match but it hasn't kept me from taking AA Gent -1 @ 2.02 yesterday. I would have taken some extra in BTC but the odds were only available on Sportmarket Pro. I will keep an eye out to take more live though.
