Rohit Sharma has been in excellent form for the best part of the past year in the ODI’s. The Mumbai Indian captain, and the vice-captain of the Indian national ODI team, seems to have embarked on a path a path to break previously held records. In the first ODI against the Australians, Rohit Sharma scored his fourth ODI hundred. He was tied with the West Indian legend Sir Vivian Richards being the only two foreign players to have scored three centuries on Australian soil. After the hundred in the first ODI, he has become the only player to have scored four ODI hundreds on the Australian shores.

Popularly called as the ‘Hitman’ by his Indian fans for his flamboyant approach to the game, Rohit Sharma has achieved another exciting record. This time his target was the one held by the great West Indian player Chris Gayle. As we are well aware of how Chris Gayle is popular for the number of sixes that he hits in each of his innings when he gets going. His record for the maximum number of sixes against any one country was against the English team and the count was at 88 sixes. But now, with 89 sixes under his belt against the Aussies, Rohit Sharma holds that record also. It is a pity that Chris Gayle has opted out from the West Indian ODI squad to play against England this year. Fans would have loved to see how he would react to the news.

Rohit Sharma has already led the Mumbai Indians to three IPL championships. Moreover, he has not let any opportunity go by whenever he had a chance to lead the Indian team in the ODIs. In the Asia Cup 2018 held in the UAE, when Virat Kohli was rested, he made it memorable by winning the cup for India. He also led India on many other occasions when Kohli wasn’t playing for one reason or the other and has made a good impression in all those matches.

There is no doubt about the talent that Rohit Sharma possesses. He is the only batsman to have so far scored 250 runs in an ODI match. Not only that, he is the only player to have scored three double hundreds in ODI matches. Martin Guptill of New Zealand is the second-ranked player in terms of the maximum number of runs scored in an ODI inning with 237 runs and Virendra Sehwag is at the third position with 219 runs to his credit.

I do like the way in which Rohit Sharma bats. So long as he is at the wicket with a cricket bat in his hand you will find yourself on the edge of your seat. There is hardly a boring moment. Along with the explosive Shikhar Dhawan, they make the best opening pair in ODIs in world cricket today.
