After sealing a 2-1 victory over the Australian’s the Indian team once again tasted an ODI victory, this time in the very first match of their 5 match series against the New Zealanders. This is a good beginning for India which will allow them to field their other players in the side and give them exposure in their search for the perfect squad for the World Cup.

At the beginning of the match, given that the two teams are ranked numbers two and three in the ICC ODI rankings, we expected the match to be a good fight between two evenly matched teams. but the match turned out to be onesided. Kane Williamson, the New Zealand captain did his best to get a sizeable total for the Kiwis and make the contest an interesting one. Despite playing a good inning of 64 runs off only 84 balls, he continually lost his partners and new Zealand ultimately set India a target of 158 runs to score.

The funny moment:-

Kuldeep Yadav, the Indian chinaman bowler was preparing to bowl to Trent Boult. That was when Dhoni told him something just before the bowler set out to bowl the ball. Kuldeep followed dhoni’s suggestion and got Boult caught by Rohit Sharma at the first slip.

Dhoni said to Kuldeep behind the stumps

That shows why MS Dhoni is counted among the astute cricketers across the globe.

The Indian team started well in their reply to the New Zealanders. India lost their first wicket, Rohit Sharma, just after the lunch break. Thereafter Virat Kohli and Shikar Dhawan batted well to take India towards the victory target. Kohli was out after scoring a good 45 runs. But Shikhar Dhawan and Ambati Rayadu saw India to victory after facing 35.5 overs. Shikar Dhawan Remained not out on 75 runs scored off 103 balls.

A total of seven New Zealand wickets went to the spinners while three wickets were captured by the pace bowler Mohammed Shami. Why is it that the spinners prosper on wickets that are considered pacer friendly. Are the New Zealand batsmen not adept at playing spinners? Interestingly, the other fast bowlers in the Indian team, Bhuwaneshwar Kumar went wicketless and so did Vijay Shanker.
