Deservedly, Manchester City and England international, Phil Foden has been named the Premier League Young Player of the Season ahead of his compatriots, Manchester United's Mason Greenwood, Chelsea's Mason Mount and Arsenal's Bukayo Saka.

The youngster who was part of Man City's last title winning team in 2018 feels more connected to their current triumph in the league, having had more play time and contributed to the team's success.

Foden, who will be flying the English national flag at the 2020 European championship starting on the 11th of June scored 9 goals and complemented with 5 assists. This is the highest return among all nominated young players and he managed 28 league appearances.

The Stockport-born youngster broke into limelight in 2017 following the U-17 World Cup, where he excelled with the England U-17 team, winning the Golden Ball Award as England won the tournament.

This amazing outing led to his emergence in Man City's first team and has since grown to become a vital part of Pep Guardiola's team, particularly since the departure of midfield maestro, David Silva to Real Sociedad in 2020, racking up over 100 appearances for the Sky Blue side.

With his current contract running until 2024, what is most certain is that Man City have gotten themselves a prized asset which they will be looking to tie at the club for longer than the remaining three years of his contract. This is a talent that is poised to captain the side in the future.

Other nominees for the award were Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Leeds United's Illan Meslier, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and West Ham vice-captain, Declan Rice.
