For qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League, thanks to their success against Atalanta (2-1), Paris Saint-Germain waited impatiently to know the identity of their opponent in the next round.
For the second match of Final 8 in Portugal, RB Leipzig faced Atletico Madrid. To climb into the last four, Julian Nagelsmann opted for a 3-4-3 with the trio Nkunku, Olmo, and Poulsen leading the way. On the Madrid side, Diego Simeone relied on a classic 4-4-2 with the Diego Costa duo, Marcos Llorente in the attack. The Colchoneros made an interesting start and obtained two great opportunities by Savic (10th) and Carrasco (13th). We had to wait for the stoppage of play in the first act to see a big German opportunity.
Upon returning from the locker room, RB Leipzig took control of operations. By shifting well to the right, Sabitzer distilled a good center for Dani Olmo whose crossed head deceived Oblak (1-0, 50th). Twenty minutes later, Klostermann mowed down Joao Felix in the penalty area. The referee logically indicated the penalty spot. The Portuguese genius did justice to himself and put his team back on track (1-1, 71st). Before long In, RB Leipzig regained the advantage by shifting to the left, Angelino found Tyler Adams at the entrance to the 18 area. The strike from the midfielder was deflected by Savic which surprised Oblak (2-1, 88th).
Thanks to this forced success, Leipzig qualified for the semi-finals and will face PSG next Tuesday.
I cant wait to see how this encounter will pan out. PSG is one formidable team will be difficult to tackle but so was Atletico Madrid if one will be frank. The question is, will the gods of soccer also create deflecting opportunities for Leipzig once again? I guess next week is pregnant with another surprise for football fans.
