Coming up later today is the first part of the ongoing champions league group stage campaign, lots of exciting matches ahead as we look forward to yet another entertaining champions league night. Chelsea will be hosting Ajax at the bridge tonight for the return leg of the clash as both teams aim to go 3 points clear at the top.
Chelsea are in a good form at the moment, their opening day disappointment both in the premier league and the champions league have long been forgotten as they are now on a run of wins even though it was temporarily cut shot by Man United in the EFL Cup which saw Chelsea get eliminated. However, the Blues quickly bounced back to winning ways against Watford at the weekend with a solid away win. The UCL group stage battle is not over yet as they face Ajax again but this time on home ground. They haven’t recorded a lot of wins at home this season compared to their away form but they will be looking to get things right against a very strong Ajax side tonight.
Expected formation and tactics, Chelsea is expected to set up a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 formation. Similar to Ajax, Chelsea are a young team this season and play a bit similar football to Ajax. They know how strong Ajax are and how difficult this game will be, so for Chelsea, they will be going into the game to prevent Ajax from playing their game and try to utilize their qualities in quick transitions and attack to hurt Ajax at home.
Ajax are the undisputed kings of the Netherland League the Eredivisie. They are the only team in the Eredivisie remain unbeaten this season and are already 6 points clear at the top. They have been top class in the league as well as the champions league, however, Chelsea proved to be the stronger side when they both met at the Amsterdam Arena few weeks ago. Ajax will be aiming to get revenge at the Bridge tonight as they set for the return leg clash.
Expected formation and tactics, Ajax is expected to set up a 4-2-3-1 formation. They are very young and energetic side and will be going into this game full of optimism to get the job done. They are a team that loves to press the opponent without giving the opposition any time and space on the ball and are very good at quick attack and counter-attacking football. So for them, their gameplan in this game will be to play their football and try to be more solid at the back.
What do you think will be the outcome of this fixture?
I would love to read your thoughts and opinions… Enjoy your day.
