Annihilation is the word for the outcome of the match between Dortmund vs Atletico Madrid in the champions league, a match which the majority of fans all over the world paid attention to.
It was a game between two European giants and football philosophies. As match that saw one team totally annihilate the other.
POST MATCH ANALYSIS
This game was a fun game to watch for most of the Dortmund fans and the opposite for Atletico Madrid fans. Dortmund have been in fine form this season and are already doing great in the Bundesliga. Coming into the game, the team was filled with confidence and their performance proved it.
A. Madrid started the game well but it was Dortmund who had the first goal opportunity. From there on, the game was pretty much even for both sides.
Dortmund kept on playing their usual style and trying to create spaces and chances with their quick gameplay.
A.Madrid, on the other hand, were keeping their shape and remaining compact while also trying to create chances on the counter-attack and had a very good opportunity to get an equalizer after the Dortmund lead but the ball managed to hit the woodwork. What a goal that would have been.
The first goal:
Dortmund got the well-deserved opener first goal after a fine play down the left-hand side and a nice pass to Witsel who then fired the ball low which took a big deflection into the bottom corner.
The second goal:
The second goal came at the 73rd minute, beautiful play from Dortmund. A through ball was played down the left-hand side which was squared unto the path of Guerreiro who finished brilliantly for the all-important second goal. The goal and the time which the goal was scored ensured that the game was pretty much over.
The third goal:
This third goal was a typical Dortmund goal. A quick breakaway after the ball was won halfway into the Dortmund’s half, a fantastic through ball was played for Hakimi to chase on to, who got to the ball first before the defender and laid a beautiful pass to Sancho to score one of the easiest goals to score as a player. Game over and it was a matter of completing the annihilation.
The fourth goal:
I will call this goal a gift and the icing on the cake. It summed up the performance of both teams and completed what I call the annihilation. A misplaced pass by the A.Madrid defender fell onto the path of Guerreiro who fired the ball home for the fourth and completed the fine performance by the Dortmund team.
MY OBSERVATION/TALKING POINTS
Dortmund are in high flying form this season:
Dortmund are in flying form this season and are currently unbeaten in the league, winning 6 and drawing 2. The past few seasons has seen them fall behind the likes of Bayern but this season, they are fully prepared to give Bayern a run for their money.
Dortmund are top of their group:
3 wins out of 3 have seen them top of the group and are clear favorites to win the group. Their performance has been fantastic so far and if they continue with this form, they will surely win the group.
Can Dortmund go all the way in the champions league?
Judging by their performance so far, one can rightfully say that they can go all the way. They have what it takes to go far in the competition and if possible reach the final like they did a few years ago.
Can Dortmund maintain this form throughout the season?
This is a very tricky question because no one knows if they will be able to maintain this current form throughout the season. There are a lot of factors that can cause a team to lose form, key players injury can be a major blow for them, but if they are injury free, they can push on to achieve success this season.
And that is a wrap…
What do you think… Do you they can maintain their current top form throughout the season?
I would love to hear your own opinions… Enjoy your day.
