The champions league showdown is back again and the continuation of the ongoing group stage games, as we look forward to another exciting champions league week and matchday. Lots of exciting and much-anticipated champions league fixtures, continuing from where we stopped few weeks ago. We will be seeing the same fixtures we saw in the last champions league group stage games but the reverse. Borussia Dortmund who flew to Italy to face Inter Milan few weeks ago will be hosting Inter Milan for the return leg of their group stage showdown.
Dortmund are in a very tricky position in the group at the moment, they are currently sitting in 3th place but level on points with Inter Milan which makes this fixture a very crucial one for them as a loss could mean the end of the road for them in this competition if Inter wins the remaining 2 fixtures. A win would put them in a very good position to progress into the next round.
Expected formation and tactics, Dortmund is expected to set up a 4-2-3-1 formation. They are a team that likes to attack but most play in a more aggressive counter-attacking and attacking football rather than defend deep and wait for counter-attacking opportunities to capitalize on. Knowing how crucial this game is for them, they will be going into this game to win at all cost and will be aiming to put a lot of energy into this game to get the crucial 3 points.
Inter Milan have been very impressive this season since they appointed Antonio Conte as their new manager. They are doing pretty well in the Serie A just a point behind Juventus who are currently the league leaders. Their champions league group stage campaign has been very tricky so far in a group with Barca and Dortmund, making it a very difficult group to progress out of. They are currently fighting with Dortmund for the second-place spot and have another great chance of going 3 points above Dortmund if they are able to get all 3 points tomorrow. A draw wouldn’t be the worst result in the world but it means that they have to earn more points than Dortmund in the last 2 fixtures to secure progress out of the group.
Expected formation and tactics, Inter Milan is expected to set up in Conte’s preferred 3-5-2 formation. They are a defensively sound team, in fact all Conte’s teams are always defensively sound. They will be going into this game away from home not to lose but also to try to get the crucial 3 points. Conte likes to set up his team to counter-attack especially in situations like this which makes them a very difficult and dangerous team to play against as Inter Milan can beat anyone if they put up a top performance.
