England defender and Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire has come out to defend his goal celebration after putting England ahead in the ninth minute during the WC Qualifier match against Albania. In his post-match interview, Maguire made it clear that his goal celebration was "not directed to anyone to anyone". He stressed that the importance of the goal was what lead to him pulling such a celebration. He also recognised that he will be criticised more often for his actions especially in this period that his Man United performances have been so poor.
Criticism on Maguire's Goal Celebration
Recall that former United captain Roy Keane and former England forward Jermain Defoe slammed Maguire for his goal celebration during the fixture against Albania. Mr Keane called the celebration "embarrassing". Defoe commented that his goal celebration will leave a sour taste in people's mouth.
Highlights On England vs Albania Game
The Three Lions thrashed Albania by 5 goals to nil. Maguire scored the opener, Henderson got a goal for himself and captain Harry Kane grabbed a hat-trick. The Albanians offered very little resistance to the onslaught of the English side.
