France vs Uruguay was very expected by supporters. The Celeste had to play without one of their best players Edinson Cavani. But they still had Luiz Suarez as their major hope as well as great defending headed by Diego Godin and experienced goalkeeper Muslera.

It was the shotstopper who turned out to be the flop of the day. At 0-1 he conceded an easy shot by Antoine Griezmann which was directed exactly at his gloves. This put an end to Uruguayan hopes for semifinal.

The French were really impressive in the first half but managed to score just one goal when Raphael Varane used a perfect cross by Griezmann and headed the ball home.

Uruguay had just one great chance to score when Godin was their for a rebound after a brilliant save by Lloris, but Celeste's defender failed to hit the roof of the net. 2-0 for France is a fair result that showed the prowess of Didier Deschamps team.

France will face winners of tonight second quarterfinal between Brazil and Belgium.
