According to reports making the rounds, Chelsea captain Caesar Azpilicueta is weighing his options at the club.
Spanish giants Barcelona are interested in his services, however, the Spaniard is keen on retiring at Stamford Bridge.
For the time being, Chelsea is in no rush to hand him a new contract considering his age. Hence, Barcelona remains a possible destination.
The contract renewal option
There are two basic options at Azpilicueta's disposal right now. One would be to renew his deal with Chelsea (Which he favors). And the other would be to make a switch to the Camp Nou.
Throughout their history, Chelsea have been known as a team who find it difficult renewing deals for players above 30. Hence, they would not be in a hurry to give Azpilicueta his desired pay check.
The Barcelona option
The contract of the captain is reputedly coming to an end this summer. At Camp Nou, Barcelona manager Xavi remains a great admirer of Azpilicueta. At such, would be open to getting him on a free deal.
From the reports, Xavi believes Azpilicueta would be instrumental in bringing some form of experience and stability to the Barcelona side.
