Atlanta Olympics

Hello everyone! Welcome to another sport educating post from @Oxygen02. Today i will be sharing with you the year i started loving the round leather game( Football).

While i was growing up, the first sport my environment exposes me to his football. I can still remember little, if not all, then my mother bought me a small plastic ball and in my neighborhood, other children always see me as the captain because they will always want me to bring my ball out for play and then, i will be the one to decide who play and who don't. I believe many of us can relate to that from our childhood experience.

My love for the round leather game started developing in 1996 when Nigeria rule the world in Atlanta and that year mark the year i fully build my interest in football. Even though though i was still small then, I could still recall some crazy event in the tournament. Then Nigeria have the services of this great player's. The likes of Sunday Oliseh, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Wilson Oruma, Celestine Babayaro, Tijani Babaginda, Emmanuel Amunike, Uche Okechukwu, Daniel Amokachi, Nwankwo Kanu, Taribo West, Victor Ikpeba and many more.

The combination of Uche Okechukwu and Taribo West in the heart of Nigeria defense in this tournament is like playing Sergio Ramos together with Rio Ferdinand in your defense line.

Even if i can't remember all the actions and some of the matches in this tournament, i can never forget the match between Nigeria and Brazil in the semi final when the team came from behind to win the match 4:3. If you ask me which player while growing up inspired me and which I first know his name, i will tell you is Bebeto of Brazil.

Bebeto

I could still remember his pairing with Ronaldo upfront was a problem for Nigeria defense line but a certain player was born and made known to the world in this particular encounter, in person of Nwankwo Kanu who scored 2 beautiful goals to seal the win for Nigeria team.

Nwankwo Kanu (Papilo)

There is this popular song we use to sang then and this is the lyrics

When Nigeria win Brazil (2x)
Bebeto come dey cry
When Nigeria win Brazil.

And whenever we are playing street soccer, we use to call the best player in our midst Bebeto, a name you will be proud to bear as far as football is concern.

This team went on to win Argentina in the final and today, the whole thing is history but this mark the year I started loving the round leather game (Football).

I will love to hear your opinion and the match that draw your interest to the round leather game in the comment box.
