The Super Eagles of Nigeria lost to Algeria in the ongoing AFCON competition has led to lots of opinion where by many people in their own opinion believes that the Super Eagle green jersey is the reason behind the lost. Like serious i must confess, it really sounds crazy that people still hold such a myth belief that that was the reason for the lost.

Nigeria lost 2-1 to Algeria in the final minute of the game and people started making reference to matches the team has lost wearing the jersey. Even when the match was about to start at the viewing center where i watched the game, i heard someone beside me saying and i quote " ah! Na this jersey dey wear again? We don't lose" meaning the team will loose the match because they are pitting on the green jersey.

I looked at him and i was like why do you think we are going to loose this match all in the name of the jersey? Then he started telling me matches the team has lost with the jersey.

  1. Nigeria team worn the jersey against Argentina last year at the world cup and lost the match
  2. The also worn the jersey against under rated Madagascar which they also lost the match 2-0
  3. Now against Algeria in the semi final which they also lost the match.

Now, with all this evidence about the green jersey, can we now conclude rightly that the jersey has been cursed or the team lost those matches tactically. To me, i don't think the jersey is the reason behind the lost but our tactics in those matches.

Let us take a look at the Algeria game and you will agree with me that our coach was the only reason why the team lost that particular encounter. Where he first get it wrong is the use of two blocking 4 in the game and not allowing the team to attack.

Due to that, Algeria keep on playing long passes to our box because they know is not going to be easy for them to pass through the two blocking 4. All the Nigeria team need in that game is a number 10 like Mikel, Etebo at number 8 and Ndidi as blocking 4.

Concerning our attacking trio, i don't see the reason why Musa was still playing and the coach remove Chukwueze in that game.

Although, everyone is entitle to his or her opinion but in my own opinion, we didn't lost the game because of the jersey but our tactics was really wrong.
