It is no longer news that Kun Aguero is yet to extend his contract. He has spent the last few months injured and is currently in isolation after testing positive to Covid-19. He will have to do a lot to justify why he deserves a contract extension.
If history is anything to go by, one would cast a bet against that likelihood. Experience shows that the Spanish tactician dislikes aggressive players. Pep’s coaching style promotes team work, cooperation and team play. He disliked selfish players and aggressive players. While he dislikes the former for placing the self-interest ahead of collective goal, he avoids the latter for tendency to engage in verbal outburst which could affect the team unity.
His reign at Barça saw the exit of Samuel Eto, Keita and Yaya Toure. African accused the Spanish tactician of being a racist. In reality, he avoids quick tempered players for which blacks are known for. Pep love peaceful players who conform easily with minimum resistance. Ribery and Ibrahimović were not his favorite at Bayern and Barcelona respectively. Unlike Mourinho who expresses his anger openly, Pep prefers the passive-aggressive style. He would wait for the players contract to rundown and let them go. A nice way to get rid of them without anyone getting hurt. Guardiola has not hidden his displeasure with the Argentine s a couple of times for not heeding to his directive of passing the ball and creating chances for others. Kun is like the typical Alpha male who loves to make his own decisions.Aguero has an eye for goal and prefers to shoot on sight when there are options. Kun has only made it this far because Gabriel Jesus whom Pep signed to replace him is yet to fully adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League.
But aggressive players are known to step up during big matches. The club is yet to get a defender as good as Kompany despite spending over $150 million on center backs alone. The presence of big one strong, consistent and reliable player can be the difference between failure and success. John Terry and Didier Drogba, Sergio Ramos and christiano Ronaldo have shown consistency in bringing silverware to their respective clubs. When facing a tougher opposition, other these players show extra determination to push through until they get the results. The absence of one is glaring. The squad is currently missing a defensive leader With Kompany gone and may miss the presence of a sharp tooth upfront with Aguero about to do the same.Pep may struggle to make it to the quarter-final of the champion league if he doesn’t sign a better striker .
