Douglas Costa could face a lengthy ban after he was sent off for appearing to spit in the mouth of Federico Di Francesco. Juventus continued their 100% start to the new season with a 2-1 victory over Sassuolo, their fourth win in as many games. But the match ended on a sour note when Costa became involved in an altercation with Di Francesco who he elbowed, before getting into a heated argument. The Brazil international then appeared to spit directly into Di Francesco’s mouth from point blank range and aimed a headbutt at his opponent.

Daniele Chiffi awarded a yellow card, but moments later sent Costa was given his marching orders for unsportsmanlike conduct after VAR intervened. The match will, however, ultimately be remembered for Cristiano Ronaldo’s first two goals in a Juventus shirt following his summer move from Real Madrid.
