Gone are the days when Ricardo Kaka, Ronaldinho, and Cannavaro won the best player in the world. Nowadays it seems the best player in the world is given to attackers who can score goals in their multitudes.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi have dominated the award for the past 10 years with Kaka the last player aside them to win it. Does this mean that all the other players are not up to the world standard.

Let us have a look at players that should have won the world best player award.

Wesley Sneijder

2010 was Sneijder best season. A classic playmaker with knack for goals. He won the Italian Serie A, Coppa italia, world cup runner up this season. He was instrumental to the Intermilan and Nertherland success. He contributed 3 goals and 6 assists in the 11 matches he played at the Uefa champions league they won. This was with the assist he gave Diego milito in the final. When you look at the world cup. He was Nertherland key player as they reached the final before losing to Spain in extra time. They should have won the match if not for the brilliance of Iker Casillas and wastefulness of Arjen Robben. He went on to claim the Silver ball and bronze boot. He scored a total of 5 goals at the 2010 world cup in south africa with one assist. The goals include a match winning performance against Brazil where he scored twice to help his team win 2-1.

Sneijder was the Uefa best midfielder in 2010 and top assist provider that year. However, Lionel Messi won the world best for winning the la liga, spanish super cup, club world cup, Uefa super cup. Goals was clearly the decider and that was how Wesley Sneijder lost out and couldn't make the top 3 podium too.

Andres Lujan Iniesta

You just can't hate this man. He is very creative with a quick-feet, rubber-like waist that twists at will. He is one of the main engine room of Barcelona then with Messi and Xavi. He is one of the underrated playmakers in recent times. He doesn't score loads of goals, but his creativity, style of play is what the team needs to progress. He has won every cup available at both club and national side. Man of the match in the Fifa world cup final in 2010 and Euro cup final in 2012 shows the kind of player he is.

He had a chance to win the world best player in 2012. Despite the fact that Barcelona didn't win any major trophy in 2012, he was instrumental in all their matches and won the Uefa best player in Europe award with the Euro player of the tournament award that same year. Winning the Euros and being the best player in that tournament with the best player in Euros should be sufficient enough to win the world best. He was however named the third best player in the world. Messi won it for the goal records that he broke.

This showed that the world best recently are awarded to players that have the goals and a couple of trophies rather than players that showed what they can do by carrying the team as seen in the days of Ronaldinho and so Kaka.

Other players that should have won the world best include Arjen Robben, Manuel Neuer, Luka Modric, Sergio Ramos to mention a feww
