I mentioned to you, my Scorum friends, that I would be finding creative ways to spend $100 I received from my grandma for my birthday -- all in ways that relate to sports. After spending $25 on sports items that I'll use to play with my kids, I'm going to have some grown up fun and use the next $25 on something risky and fun -- gambling on horse racing. I'm an amateur handicapper and I really enjoy it.
This Friday begins the biggest weekend in all of horse racing -- the Breeders' Cup. While the gigantic Breeders' Cup Classic, with a $6M purse, will take place on Saturday evening, a slew of Grade 1 stakes races will also be taking place, including the Juvenile Fillies Turf race. I plan on wagering on the Breeders' Cup Classic, but first, I would like to increase my bankroll to have enough to place several bets on Saturday's big race. The $1M Juvenile Fillies Turf race has a rising fillie star in Newspaperofrecord, who has dominated opponents to reach this race at 2-0 with a Grade 2 Stakes victory in the Miss Grillo Stakes.
On a yielding turf course, Newspaperofrecord takes control early and powers forward, winning impressively. She will face tougher competition in the Grade 1 Juvenile Fillies Turf, but all signs point to her being the next dominant fillie, and I believe in her as well.
Betting $25: Breakdown
As mentioned in the video above, I'm betting $22 on #6 Newspaperofrecord in the 6th race at Churchill Downs. I'm also placing a $.50 trifecta bet on Newspaperofrecord over the 1, 3, and 14, which is a $3 bet total. This means that if Newspaperofrecord finishes first and the next two spots are filled by the 1, 3, or 14 (in any order), I will win the trifecta bet.
If I do win the bet on Newspaperofrecord, I'll be back to break down the Breeders' Cup Classic race, which looks to be a wide open race. Wish me luck!
