Top 5 Players of the 1983 World Series
By Zane Miller On Sunday, October 16th, 1983, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Philadelphia Phillies at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia to win the 80th World Series four games to one. It was the third (and as of this writing, most recent) World Series championship for the Orioles franchise and the eighth that was won in Pennsylvania. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #40 John Denny (Phillies)- P Denny earned player of the game honors in game one, going seven and two-thirds innings with one earned run allowed on five hits and no walks in the Phillies’ 2-1 victory. 4. #38 John Lowenstein (Orioles)- LF Lowenstein grabbed player of the game in game two, as he knocked in one RBI with a run and three hits as the Orioles claimed the 4-1 win. 3. #25 Rich Dauer (Orioles)- 2B Dauer was game four’s player of the game, hitting three RBIs on one run and three hits, as the Orioles took a 5-4 victory. 2. #33 Eddie Murray (Orioles)- 1B Murray picked up player of the game honors in game five, knocking in three RBIs with two runs and three hits as the Orioles went on to win it 5-0 and claim the series. 1. #46 Mike Flanagan (Orioles)- P Flanagan pitched his way to player of the game in game three, going four innings while allowing two earned runs on six hits and a walk in the Orioles’ 3-2 victory.
