Top 5 Players of the 2003 World Series
By Zane Miller On Saturday, October 25th, 2003, the Florida (now Miami) Marlins defeated the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York to win the 99th World Series four games to two. It was the second (and as of this writing, most recent) World Series championship for the Marlins franchise and the 31st that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. 5. #51 Bernie Williams (Yankees)- CF Williams earned player of the game in game three, getting three RBIs with one run and one hit as the Yankees claimed 6-1 victory. 4. #19 Mike Lowell (Marlins)- 3B Lowell grabbed player of the game in game five, driving in two RBIs with one run, one hit, and one walk as the Marlins scored a 6-4 win. 3. #31 Brad Penny (Marlins)- P Penny earned player of the game honors in game one, pitching five and a third innings while allowing a pair of earned runs on seven hits and three walks in the Marlins’ 3-2 victory to start out the series. 2. #45 Carl Pavano (Marlins)- P Pavano took player of the game in game four, allowing just one earned run with seven hits and no walks over eight innings pitched as the Marlins went on to win it 4-3 in 12 innings. 1. #21 Josh Beckett (Marlins)- P Beckett scored player of the game honors in game six, pitching a complete game shutout with just five hits and a pair of walks in the Marlins’ 2-0 win to take the series victory.
