Shizuoka Marathon Blog, VI - 7 Miles Under the Stars (Running in October) + introducing a new friend on SCORUM!

Ambient church.

Rotting leaves and twigs smell sweet.

Autumn blossoms. Pine smoke.

Vast ethereal void where everything is there, but there’s total space.

To me, this is running in October. Through the ambient church. Shadows. Apartment lights. Blue glow of television. Sounds of nature. Sounds of sky. Total silence. A void of my own.

Typhoon season is coming to a close, and with this transition, a shift into the cooler weather of fall proper. A welcome change for me. It won't be long until I'll have to start adding some layers. Just my t-shirt and running shorts aren't gonna cut it for too much longer, it seems. Still, my body temperature seems to be a couple degrees warmer than most of the surrounding populace. Or maybe it's those Chicago winters. Either way, I felt just about perfect tonight @ 14 degrees and my usual attire. Just on the edge of chilly, to the point where, if I stopped, I would have felt cold.

My mile time has been decreasing steadily. Tonight I took it easy, so not so remarkable as far as speed this run, but Friday night's run I was under 9 minutes over 5 miles, which for me is not too bad! Keep moving. Keep improving. Main thing is though...to be in the church, and to be set free and enjoy that shit.
